SWYAA Spain · Ship for World Youth Alumni Association

What is SWY?

SWY stands for Ship for World Youth (in Spanish, Barco de la Juventud Mundial). It is a programme funded by the Prime Minister's Office of the Government of Japan. It has been running since 1988 and aims to develop young people as the leaders of the future.

Participants from Japan and several other countries study and discuss a range of topics from a global perspective and take part in multicultural, multinational activities that help them build international awareness and leadership.

The programme lasts around a month, combining time on land and time on board a ship, and brings together more than 200 young people. The route and the countries invited by Japan change with each edition. When this text was written, 35 editions had been held and Spain had taken part in 7 of them.
